What is the Garden of Remembrance?
The Garden of Remembrance is a Christian columbarium at 920 Old Choa Chu Kang Road, Singapore 699815, established by the Methodist Church in Singapore under Christian Columbarium Pte Ltd. It's set within landscaped, tranquil grounds with balconies and open spaces for quiet prayer and reflection, and it's one of the largest and longest-established private Christian columbaria in Singapore, holding over 30,000 niches.
It's about a 10-minute drive from Boon Lay MRT, with ample on-site parking and complimentary high-speed WiFi.

Lease terms
Niches at the Garden of Remembrance are leased, not freehold. The current lease runs 60 years, from 1999 to 2059. According to the Methodist Church's own site, lease extensions from 2059 through to 2098 will be made available at a later date, meaning there's a stated path to extend beyond the current term, though the specifics of that extension aren't published yet.

Wake and memorial service facilities
Five fully air-conditioned rooms are available for Christian wakes, funerals, and memorial services, ranging from 900 to 2,800 sq ft with seating for 30 to 150 people.

Authorising someone else to collect the ashes
If the original applicant or next-of-kin can't easily get to Garden of Remembrance themselves, it's possible to designate a third party to help coordinate the dis-interment of ashes on their behalf. Garden of Remembrance issues an authorisation form for this directly to the applicant or NOK, and the niche number(s) need to be provided to their main office for this to be processed. This is often useful when the family lives overseas, isn't mobile enough to make the trip, or simply needs someone else to handle the coordination.
The designated third party is often the funeral vendor already helping the family, and it's something Kenneth can personally help with too, acting as that third party to collect the ashes and coordinate what comes next, whether that's an ash scattering on land or a sea burial.
